56th Anniversary of Tibetan Uprising against Chinese Rule commemorated

On 10th March Tibetan exiles all over the world commemorated the 56th Uprising Day against Chinese occupation. Likewise Tibetan community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein observed the day with prayers, slogan march and candle light vigil from Zurich city train station to the Chinese Consulate. More than one thousand Tibetans gathered near the Zurich train station at around 5 p.m and then proceeded towards Chinese Consulate with slogans, pamphlets distribution, prayers and candlelight procession.

Mr. Gope Yonten la gave an introductory speech on the anniversary followed by speeches by former political prisoner Golok Jigme la and by the president of the Tibetan community in Switzerland & Liechtenstein (TCSL) Mr.Gangschoentsang Lobsang la. Mr. Dawa Tsering la from Office of Tibet (Geneva) read out Exile Tibetan Cabinet‘s (Kashag) Anniversary statement in Tibetan and English.

56 years occupation of Tibet by China has led to the ever deteriorating situation inside Tibet due to Communist China’s hardliner policies. March participants demanded Chinese authorities to stop violating human rights in Tibet, make way for a dialogue for a middle way resolution on Tibet and let His Holiness the Dalai Lama return to Tibet.

President of the Tibetan New Generation Association Mr. Pawo la, Ms.Karin Rüegg Schlotthauber from Tibet-Swiss Friendship, Representative of the European Tibetan Youth Congress, Ms. Mane Tsering la  from the regional Tibetan Women Association and Chinese Tibet supporter Mr.Wang gave speeches to the gathering  in front of Chinese Consulate.

The commemoration concluded around 8 p.m with prayers by the monks from Rikon Monastery followed by Tibetan national anthem rendition from the Folklore ensemble of TCSL.
