His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 83rd Birthday celebrated at the Stadthalle, Bülach

On 7th of July 2018 to celebrate the joyous occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 83rd Birthday an official public event was organized at the Stadthalle, Bülach. The event, starting from the afternoon 12.30 pm to 11pm, saw a wide variety of Tibetan cultural programmes. The colourful event was presented by the students of Tibetan language schools and dance troupes from different Tibetan associations based in Switzerland. The participants showcased their talents and provided a lively entertainment to the audience in the fully packed auditorium. Many from the audience were quick to appreciate the well-presented and apparent progress in presentations from the children of various Tibetan language schools.

The chief guest of the occasion, Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, Kalon, the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) lauded the efforts of Tibetans living in Switzerland in preserving and promoting Tibetan religion and culture. The Kalon extended them his gratitude for setting a role model for others to follow. Speaking on the current situation in Tibet the Kalon emphasized on the need to comprehend the true meaning of the path of Middle Way Approach as to further the unity among the people of the three provinces of Tibet.

The abbot of Tibetan institute Rikon, Geshe Thupten Legmen, stressed the significance of unity among the Tibetan people and imbibing noble ethics. Geshela also called for active support and assistance from all the sections during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s upcoming visit in Switzerland this September.

The Representative, Mr. Soktot Ngodup Dorjee, the Office of Tibet, read out the official statement of Kashag. While commending the members of outgoing 16th elected representatives of the Tibetan Community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein for their distinguished services, the Representative also expressed his optimism in the newly elected representatives for better cooperation with the Office of Tibet and in bringing about more success. The member of Tibetan Parliament representing Europe, Mr. Samdho Jampa Tsering read out the statement issued by the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, CTA.

On the same day a day long football tournament, Trunkar Football, was organized by the Tibetan Youth Association Europe, in which 34 teams participated. The final match was played between FC Potala and FC Lhasa Boys. In the end the winner turned out to be FC Potala.
