Businesses Max Out During His Holiness’ Visit to Capital of Sikkim

Dharamshala, 24th December: It is no exaggeration if the businessmen in the capital hill of Gangtok are laughing all the way to their banks! Visitors from across the world thronged Gangtok to attend sermons delivered by His Tibetan spiritual leader Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The sudden boost in the trade and businesses in the capital has direct association with the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The locals say "It's not only a big boost for the local economy but it's a big boost for the spiritual seekers as well".

According to the local tour operators, tourism industry has peaked during this period. The president of the tour operators of Sikkim said, "His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit has boosted our tourism because so many people, including numbers of tourists, disciples and devotees have come to Gangtok to attend to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's teachings and sermons".

Apart from boom in travel and tourism segment in the region, the sale of Buddhist ritual items were in great demand. The small shopkeepers were also elated to the hilt!

His Holiness consecrated and sanctified the proposed Buddha statue that stands 125 feet in height and would be the tallest Buddha statue in the world. The statue is made of nickel-aluminum bronze alloy and weighs about 57 tones.

It was estimated that over 30,000 devotees, foreign tourists, Buddhist monks from across the country and abroad attended the sermon and teachings in Gangtok by His Holiness.
