Demonstration in front UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland

Geneva: Tibetan community in Switzerland &Liechtenstein organized a demonstration in front of UN Office in Geneva on Friday 19thJune 2020 paralleling the ongoing 43rdand 44thsession of the UN Human Rights Council in front of Palais des Nations,on Friday,19thJune 2020.

The Demonstraton begins at about 11am with the Tibetan National Anthem followed by minute silence for the martyrs of Tibet.

Mr. Tsamda Norbu.President of Tibetan Community in Switzerland &Liechtenstein presided the Event by thanking the entire participant for attending the demonstration with full determination and enthusiasm despite COVID -19 pandemic.  Later he spoke in English about the lack of religious freedom inside Tibet and requested Tibet support group all over the world to help release the world‘s youngest prisoner 11thPanchen Lama (Gedun Choekyi Nyima)  . He also expressed deep concern on the suffering of Tibetans under the cruelty and oppressive rules of China. Evidently, the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic has put the world in trouble solely because of PRC’s inhuman principles. The whole world is under lockdown currently due to the pandemic, yet Tibet has been under lockdown since its illegal occupation by the Communist China.

Ms. Karma Choekyi (Thuemi) read the appeal letter to the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,highlighting the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet. The appeal further urged the High Commissioner to let Communist China not to interfere in religious affair of Tibet.

Other speaker on the occasion were Mr. Chhimey Rigzen, representative  of Tibet office Geneva, Mr. Jampa Samdho, member of Tibetan parliament in Exile,,Ms.Dekyi Santamaria                     ( President of Swiss Tibetan Woman Association) Mr.Jigme Adotsang,Co-President of Europe Tibetan youth Association, Mr. Jacques Amal , Representative of Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Association( GSTF) and Tibet-activist.

Tibetans carrying national flags, shouting Slogans calling for `Human Rights in Tibet and Release of all Political Prisoners in Tibet among other slogans highlighted the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet. They called upon the UN member states and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to hold accountable for human rights violations in Tibet.

The demonstrator followed the rules and regulations recommendet by (BAG) Swiss federal office of public health with social distance of 2 meter.

The event concluded successfully at about 3.30pm with recitation of Dhentsik Monlam and Gyalwai Shapten with full devotion.
