Flame of Truth arrives finally at Geneva
To the drumbeats of TCSL folklore group and a sea of Tibetan National Flag, the Flame of Truth reached its final destination in Geneva on the 4th of November 2012 to end its almost 6 months of relay across the world traversing 33 countries in globally in Europe, America, Asia and others.
Descending from the rally car Venerable Thupten Wangchen La and the torch was welcomed with khatas by the hundreds who had gathered. He handed over the torch of truth to Sir René Longet, National Councillor from Geneva in front of the United Nations Office in Geneva. Around 400 Tibetans and supporters had gathered for the event some traveling from as far as the canton of Zurich and St.Gallen.
The rally coincided with the monthly chapter of an appeal protest movement initiated by the TCSL to urge the United Nations to send a neutral fact finding mission to Tibet as soon as possible to investigate and monitor the critical situation on ground in Tibet. Members from Section Flawil / Uzwil and Münchwilen who had come especially in the context of the monthly movement also joined the rally.
Kusho Wangchen la in his address informed the crowd of yet an another case of self immolation that had occurred in the Rebkong region of Tibet. It is the 63rd such cases since the first such case of self immolation in 2009 in Tibet. A prayer session in homage to the recently 63 deceased was held by the monks from the Rikon monastic Institution. Representatives from the organizations of TWA Switzerland, European Tibetan Youth Association, Tibet-Swiss friendship Association addressed the crowd.
The President and Vice-President of the TCSL, Mr. Lobsang Gangshontsang and Mr. Sampa Dhondup were also present to address the rally. Representative from the Tibet Bureau, Mr Samphel la in his address urged the United Nations to act urgently on the issue of Tibet.
