Prayer Service at Rikon Tibet Institute, Switzerland

Rikon, Saturday, 7th December 2019:  Prayer Service was organized by the disciples and followers of late Geshe Lharampa Jamphel Lobshe in collaboration with Tibetan Community of Switzerland & Liechtenstein at Rikon Tibet Institute.

The Prayer service was observed to mourn the sudden demise of Sera Thekchenling Geshe Lharampa Jamphel Lobshe in western China`s Sichuan province and latest self-immolator Yonten from Ngaba Amdo, Tibet.

Geshe Lharampa Jamphel Lobshe began his formal traditional monastic education under the renowned spiritual masters of Sera Jey Monastic University,located in south India. His dedication and devotion have mastered him over the Five Major Buddhist Treatises by Indian Pundits of Nalanda Tradition of Buddhist Philosophy and its extensive commentaries by Tibetan accomplished Master Lama Tsongkapa and Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen. He earned the Geshe Lharampa Degree at the top of his class,doctorate degree in Buddhist Philosophy and Tantraya degree in Gyumed Tantric College. For the benefit and establishment of the profound Buddhist teaching to the people and his disciple in Tibet, he returned to Za-Sershul Monastery in Tibet and continued his teaching till his last breath. With the sad news of his sudden demise, compatriots and disciples from all over the world offered an overwhelming outpour of condolences and grief.

Yonten, a young Tibetan former monk from Kirti Monastery set himself on fire in protest against Chinese rule of Tibet and its hardline policies against the Tibetans. He self immolated and died in Ngaba county in Tibet`s traditional province of Amdo. Currently, details on whether Yonten’s body was returned to his parents and the extent of restrictions following the self-immolation protest in the area is not known due to clampdown on communication over the phone and internet. Ngaba in the Tibetan province of Amdo is a heavily-monitored Tibetan region with intense surveillance measures implemented regularly where police can reach a protest site within a few steps or minutes.

The prayer which started from 11am to 3pm was led by Khen Rinpoche,Ven Thupten Legmen and Monks. Approximately 130 members presented on the prayer session, prayed deeply for the late Geshe Lharampa Jamphel Lobshe lak ,Yonten lak and all the other martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.
