TCSL celebrated His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 80th Birthday
On July 4th, Tibetan Community in Switzerland & Liechtenstein (TCSL) celebrated the 80th birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet at town hall of Bülach in canton Zürch, Switzerland. The celebration was organised TCSL to honour His Holiness of his undisputed work for the cause of Tibet and his contribution towards world peace.
Despite very hot weather, It is estimated around 1600 people, Tibetans from all over Europe and many Tibet supporters gathered to the capacity of the town hall. Notable attendees among the masses included abbot of Rikon Tibetan Institute and monks, Representative of H. H. the Dalai Lama from Tibet office in geneva, Special Representative of H. H. the Dalai Lama to Europe, Mr. Sonam Norbu Dagpo, Secretary of International Relations of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) from Dharmsala, Doteo Chitue Mr. Seda Tsultrim, Both current Europe Tibetan Parliamentarians (Chitue) and ex-Tibetan Parliamentarians, Former President and former vice president of 15th Legislature of TCSL, Editor in chief of Sartrin and Newsletter of TCSL, Presidents of the three provinces of Tibet in Switzerland, Europe Tibetan Youth Congress, Swiss Tibetan Friendship association, Tibetan Women association of Switzerland and present President and vice President of TCSL.
At 13.15 pm, the celebrations began with the opening ceremonie, carrying the photo of His Holiness and singing the national anthem accompanist by the Tibetan Folklore Ensemble of TCSL. After the Longlife Prayers lead by abbot of Rikon Tibetan Institute there were shared tea and dresey for all attendee.
Following this, President of TCSL, Mr Nyingbu Tenzin addressed the assembled crowd with a welcome speech. Then came the first part of the song and dance performances by various Tibetan schools, which was followed again by speeches from various representatives. After which followed an endlessly queued traditional and modern performances from various associations and sections in the community. Also a group of kids from section Turbenthal recited a prayer to His Holiness and cut a cake to which gathered crowd sang a happy Birthday song.
In the evening, raffle lottery of the event was drawn with prize ranging from 380, 580 and 1080 Swiss Franks for 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively. The first prize is won by Mr. Sewo Sonam la from Munchwilen, which he donated on the spot back to the community. This is followed by a presentation of the folklore ensemble of TCSL and the event ended towards 24.00 o’clock with a cozy get-together and the traditional Gorsche.
