Tibetan Youth Dies in Self-Immolation Protest at Sangchu
Tsebey, a 22-year-old Tibetan man set himself on fire around 1 pm local time today (12 January) in Sangchu region of Kanlho in eastern Tibet. He is the first Tibetan to set himself on fire protesting against the Chinese government in 2013. He died on the spot.
Local Tibetans took his body to a safe location before Chinese security authorities arrived. His body was later carried away to his home village, an eyewitness said. Tsebey hails from Keynang village in Sangchu county, Amchok. He is survived by his father Dukar Kyab and mother Dolma Tsering.
