Unlike China, India is a Free Country, Based on the Rule of Law: Karmapa

London: For the first time since the Himachal Police raided the monastery of the Karmapa Lama last Thursday (27th January), the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness 17th Karmapa himself spoke publically about the incident and to reassure his followers of his innocence.
The 17th Karmapa, Ugyen Trinley Dorje said, "We are now facing such a situation, which has arisen due to misunderstandings and mistakes, which has even caused concern to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. India, unlike communist China, is a free, democratic country and is based on the rule of law. Therefore, I trust that things will become clear in time. There is no need to worry."

Meanwhile, thousands of Karmapa supporters have been rallying in Dharmashala and in other Tibetan areas in India to demonstrate their support for His Holiness during this troubling time. Holding a huge portrait of Ugyen Thinley Dorje, the 17th Karmapa, and chanting "Long live Karmapa," the followers marched through the streets of Dharmshala on Wednesday to the Karmapa's monastery, Gyuto Tantric.
